Practical guidance for literature searches using bibliographic databases with research topics as keywords

  • Those with the same status as in 2024 will be able to take the course on April 1, 2025. All others will be able to take the course on April 7, 2025.
  • Term: Current academic year
  • Target: GSID students
  • It is common to search for literature using research topics as keywords, but it is also common to have difficulty finding literature that has the content you have in mind. That’s why we’ve designed this to give you some tips on how to search for academic materials.

Composition

  • Part 1; Basics of literature searches : the four methods of literature searches, research phases and literature searches, and review your selected keywords, etc.
  • Part 2; From keyword searches to literature citations (Let’s experience using Web of Science and EndNote online) : We will introduce you to a series of steps from searching for articles using a bibliographic database to describing the saved bibliographic data as references for your own paper. We will explain using Web of Science and EndNote online as an example, but you can use your favorite tools for the actual literature searches.
  • Part 3; Search for open access books : They are often not included in bibliographic databases, and their open access status is not always clearly indicated in site search tools. So here is a brief introduction to tools that can be used.

Guidances hosted by the Central Library

  • The Central Library holds seminars on how to use various databases as needed.

  • Many databases have help pages and tutorial sites, so please take a look if you have any trouble.
