Professor Tomoko Ishikawa undertook the revision of the Mediation Rules of the Mauritius Mediation and Arbitration Centre

Professor Tomoko Ishikawa of the Graduate School of International Development has revised the Mediation Rules of the Mauritius Mediation and Arbitration Centre (Mauritius Mediation and Arbitration Centre: MARC) at the request of the Centre.

This revision introduces, for the first time in domestic mediation rules, a Climate Change Disputes Mediation Protocol as an accompanying instrument. The Protocol provides an innovative framework for the use of mediation in resolving climate change–related disputes and has attracted international attention as a pioneering approach to dispute resolution in this field.

The revised Mediation Rules and the Climate Change Disputes Mediation Protocol were officially launched on 21 November 2025 at the Mauritius Bar Association Conference 2025, entitled “Anchoring Mauritius as the Legal and Financial Gateway to Africa.”
